The Denim Bear Paw Barn Quilt

There are quilt blocks that tell stories of courage, of journeys, and of strength stitched into every line. The Bear Paw is one of those blocks. Generations before us pieced it together as a symbol of resilience and the pioneering spirit of home and hearth.

This week, I’m introducing a new interpretation of that classic: the Denim Bear Paw Barn Quilt. Painted in deep indigo blues, softened with vintage whites, and accented with colorful folk-art triangles, this design feels like a well-loved piece of denim—strong, beautiful, and timeless.

Each Denim Bear Paw is hand-painted with our Prairie Paint Collection, framed in warm cedar, and sealed with Prairie Paint Finishing Wax for lasting beauty whether displayed indoors or on a barn.

✨ Available as a painted barn quilt, DIY kit, or pattern, the Denim Bear Paw carries a story of strength into every home it touches.

From the fields and farms of the past to the cozy corners of our modern lives, the Bear Paw remains a reminder that we are stronger than we know.

With love & brushstrokes,

Irish Soda Bread - My Saturday Breakfast

There’s something about Saturdays that feels a little softer. The pace of the week finally slows, sunlight peeks through the kitchen window, and I can linger a little longer over a warm cup of tea. And if you peek into my kitchen on a Saturday morning, you’ll most likely find a loaf of Irish Soda Bread cooling on the counter.

This bread has been a favorite of mine for years—simple to make, but it tastes like something special. It’s tender, just sweet enough, with bursts of raisins in every bite. The smell that fills the house while it bakes is reason enough to keep this recipe on repeat, but the real magic is in that first slice, still warm, butter. 1 1/4 cups sugar

2 1/2 teaspoons

I love how easy it is to mix together—no yeast, no long waits. Just flour, sugar, butter, raisins, buttermilk, and a few pantry staples come together to make something that feels like a little celebration. It’s the kind of bread you can whip up on a whim when friends stop by, or when you simply want to treat yourself to a cozy morning.

For me, this loaf is more than a recipe. It’s part of the rhythm of my Saturdays. I imagine my Irish grandmothers watching over me as I mix it…remembering to splice a cross into the dough to “let the fairies out”. The sound of the oven timer, the golden crust cracking as I slice into it, and the way it pairs perfectly with slow mornings and second cups of tea.

If you’ve never tried Irish Soda Bread, this might be your sign. It’s hearty enough to stand alone, but also lovely with a drizzle of honey, a little jam, or even alongside eggs and bacon. And don’t be surprised if it becomes your weekend tradition too.

Because sometimes the best breakfasts are the simplest—made with love, shared with family, and savored one warm slice at a time.

The Corn and Beans Star Quilt

This week I submitted one of my favorite quilt projects to be quilted—the Corn and Beans Star Quilt. This design has such a special story behind it, and I’m thrilled to finally see it come to life in fabric form.

Several years ago, I was asked by The Corn Wagon in Springville, Utah, to design a logo for their store. They wanted something that reflected the classic Corn and Beans quilt block but with a fresh twist that tied in a star motif. I loved the challenge and began sketching. By shifting the angle of just a few blocks, the Corn and Beans Star was born. I painted the design for them, and to this day, it remains the logo for their shop—a beautiful nod to tradition and creativity.

Since then, I’ve wanted to transform the design from paint into fabric. This month, I finally stitched it together into a quilt top. It’s now off to be quilted, and I can hardly wait to see it completed and wrapped around someone I love. There’s something so magical about watching a design evolve from a painted board to a stitched quilt—it feels like the story of the block comes full circle.

I’m currently writing instructions so quilters can create a fabric quilt block of the Corn and Beans Star themselves. Until those are ready, you can still enjoy this design in its original painted form. On our website, you’ll find the Corn and Beans Star Barn Quilt available as a painted piece, a DIY kit, or a pattern so you can bring this timeless star into your own home.

Whether painted or stitched, the Corn and Beans Star continues to shine as a symbol of heritage, artistry, and the joy of quilting.

Stitching the Sky — The Wilde Bloem Cornflower

There’s a particular shade of blue that can stop you in your tracks - the kind that belongs only to wild cornflowers dancing at the edge of summer fields. Their delicate petals, kissed with morning dew, are a reminder of both resilience and grace. The Wilde Bloem Cornflower Cross Stitch captures that fleeting beauty in a geometric bloom, translating nature’s palette into threads and texture.

The design blooms from a golden heart -  the warm glow of the sun - framed by the layered blues of open skies, and grounded by the soft green leaves that hold the flower steady against the wind. On a deep black cloth, every stitch sings, the colors glowing like wildflowers in the evening light.

This pattern is part of the Wilde Bloem Collection, inspired by the untamed beauty of meadow blooms and the stories they hold. Whether you are an experienced stitcher or threading a needle for the first time, this kit offers everything you need to bring your own Cornflower to life.

Available as:

  • Full Kit  -  Includes black aida cloth, embroidery floss, needle, pattern, and frame.

  • Pattern Only - PDF download or full-color printed pattern.
