Stitching the Sky — The Wilde Bloem Cornflower

There’s a particular shade of blue that can stop you in your tracks - the kind that belongs only to wild cornflowers dancing at the edge of summer fields. Their delicate petals, kissed with morning dew, are a reminder of both resilience and grace. The Wilde Bloem Cornflower Cross Stitch captures that fleeting beauty in a geometric bloom, translating nature’s palette into threads and texture.

The design blooms from a golden heart -  the warm glow of the sun - framed by the layered blues of open skies, and grounded by the soft green leaves that hold the flower steady against the wind. On a deep black cloth, every stitch sings, the colors glowing like wildflowers in the evening light.

This pattern is part of the Wilde Bloem Collection, inspired by the untamed beauty of meadow blooms and the stories they hold. Whether you are an experienced stitcher or threading a needle for the first time, this kit offers everything you need to bring your own Cornflower to life.

Available as:

  • Full Kit  -  Includes black aida cloth, embroidery floss, needle, pattern, and frame.

  • Pattern Only - PDF download or full-color printed pattern.

Bring a piece of the meadow into your home, one stitch at a time.

Introducing the Wilde Clover Cross Stitch Kit & Pattern

This newest cross-stitch in our Wilde Bloem Collection is a tribute to one of nature’s most humble and hopeful symbols—the wild clover. Inspired by a walk through the meadow above the lake at our family farm in New York, the Wilde Clover design captures the quiet beauty found at your feet—the little things we sometimes overlook.

Designed as a quilt, a barn quilt, an embroidery, and now a cross-stitch, this pattern features layered greens and pinks from our Prairie Paints, including the soft and verdant Clover Creek. The pattern comes as a full color mailable pattern or  downloadable PDF.  The Wilde Clover Kit includes the pattern, floss, needle, aida cloth, and scissors.  This design is framed beautifully on black Aida to let the bright bloom shine, the wood frames are also available on our website.

Clover has long symbolized luck and good fortune. But for me, the magic was always in the heart-shaped leaves, the kind I picked as a child and pressed between pages. While others searched for the rare four-leaf, I was in awe of the perfectly shaped three, the way they grew quietly below the taller meadow flowers, the way they called in the bees.

This design is a celebration of the quiet beauty in the everyday, and a reminder that what some see as a weed, others know is a treasure.  We hope you are inspired by this design to look around you to the small symbols of hope and love around you.  You can order this pattern and kit in our shop today.

Wilde Bloem Morning Glory Barn Quilt

As the colors change from forest green to amber and crimson, we waited for the last of our Wilde Bloem flowers to bloom.  Late into the season Morning Glory climbed and began to show small buds, each waiting their turn to burst in blue.  Knowing this flower is the last to bloom, and each flower lives for just one day, we found ourselves going out every morning just to see if there was a new bloom.

The Mo0rning Glory flower represents love, life and mortality.  Lots of symbolism in these beautiful blooms.  The first big blue bloom took my breath away.  All the symbolism made sense to me.  They bloom each morning and spread their petals so wide and always towards the sun, and then by evening, they turn inward and are gone.  Each day, a different one would live for one day.

I thought so much about this pattern and the remarkable beauty that came and went in one day.  What beauty do I choose to soak in, and share in a day.  The questions in my mind were, what if I had just one day to shine and is one day enough?  I don't think a flower has made my think so much about my worth in a day.  Each morning, I would welcome the new, and go thank them each night.

In addition to the unique life of the Morning Glory blooms, the leaves are a vibrant green in the shape of hearts.  Maybe that is where the symbol of love comes from.  I love this flower, and can't wait to grow them again next year.

In the Wilde Bloem garden we celebrate each flower with a barn quilt. pattern, and kit each month.  The last one this year is the Wilde Bloem Morning Glory.  All of our patterns include full color instructions and a How to Paint a Barn Quilt Guide.  They are available as PDF downloads and a paper pattern that we ship.  You will love painting this simple and beautiful pattern.

Our Wilde Bloem Moring Glory Kits are in The Shop.  Our kits for this collection come with a 12" Farmhouse Planked Wood Canvas, a pattern and the Prairie Paints needed to paint your own beautiful mini-barn quilt.

In addition to our Wilde Bloem Morning Glory Barn Quilt Kits, we also have a framed large wood barn quilts that are hand painted, stained, sealed and available in four sizes.  These make beautiful additions to your outdoor spaces and your indoor spaces too.

We hope you love this little Wilde Bloem Moring Glory quilt as much as we have.  If you haven't grown this flower before, I would recommend getting some seeds early spring and begin your starts early so that you have a longer blooming season.  They are late bloomers, but oh so worth it.

New Wilde Bloem Flowers

Our two new Wilde Bloem flowers are releasing today.  We are excited to add Bloeming Sunflowers and Wilde Clover to our growing collection of floral inspired barn quilts, barn quilt kits and patterns.   Both of these flowers are dear to our hearts because of the symbolism in each of them.  All of the Wilde Bloem flowers were chosen for their meanings and for design elements that make them extra beautiful in paint and cloth quilts.

Bloeming Sunflower Barn Quilt

Wilde Clover Mini Barn Quilt

Wilde Bloem Barn Quilt Kit

The Wilde Clover is the symbol of good luck, blessings and fortune and we loved painting this in our freshest Prairie Paint colors.  My favorite is the Alfalfa Bloom, which is the dark and vibrant pink.  Then again, two of my most loved greens are there beside it.  You will love painting with our own blend of gel-chalk paints which have superior coverage and vintage inspired colors you will love.

We hope you are inspired by this Wilde Bloem Collection and will find something to stitch, paint, quilt and love about these special flowers.
