We went this afternoon to see Tangled and all of us from young to old absolutely love it!!!  The trailer does not even come close to how beautiful and sweet this story is.

Your boys will love it (mine teared up) and your girls will want to be just like her.  Beautiful touching story.....we are in love!  Bravo Disney!!!

Cranberries, Lemons and Snowmen

So we all know I have to make snicker-doodles when it snows....which means I make them a lot!  Friday night I found a fabulous blog called the The Cooking Photographer  I loved the photos and the recipes were making my mouth water, so Sunday I spent the day trying two of her creations.

Lemon Snicker-doodles made with real cream, butter, fresh lemon zest and juice.  Wow...they made my kitchen smell soooo fabulous....(and they tasted delish)!

Lemon Snicker-doodles

1/2 Cup Butter
1 Cup Sugar
1/4 Teas. Salt
Zest of Two Lemons
1 Tbs. Whipping Cream
1 Egg
2 Teas. Baking Powder
1 3/4 Cup All Purpose Flour

Cinnamon Sugar Mixture

1/3 Cup Sugar
1 Teas. Cinnamon
1/8 Teas. Freshly Ground Nutmeg

1. Cream the butter, sugar, salt, and lemon zest and juice together.  Beat in the whipping cream and egg.  Beat in the baking powder and then mix in the flour until just combined.  Refrigerate about 1 hour, or until cool, but not hard.

2.  Preheat the oven to 375.  Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper.

3.  Mix together the cinnamon sugar ingredients in a small bowl.  Scoop the dough with a mini or standard size cookie scoop and roll together with your hands into balls.  Roll the balls in the sugar mixture.  Place two inches apart on cookie sheets.

4.  Bake cookies for 10 to 11 minutes for standard size cookies, and 7 to 8 minutes for minis.  Cool for 3 minutes on cookie sheets and then move to a cooling rack.

Can you smell the lemon?

The second recipe that made me want to eat....was the Cranberry Chili Meatballs.  Can I say oh my gosh?!?  It is seriously the best meatball sandwich I have EVER eaten...and it was made in a Crockpot!

Cranberry Chili Meatballs

1 2 lb Bag of Frozen Meatballs
1 Sweet Green Pepper
1 Sweet Red Pepper
1 1 oz Can of Jellied Cranberry Sauce
1 12 oz. jar of Chili Sauce
 Red Pepper Flakes
Grated Italian Cheese

1. Add the cranberry sauce, chili sauce, a pinch of salt, some pepper, and a dash of red pepper flakes to a pot and bring to a simmer.  Stir often and turn off heat when the two sauces combine.

2.  Place the frozen meatballs, slice the peppers, and add sauce to a slow cooker and cook over high heat for 4 to 5 hours.  

3.  Slice good hoogie rolls and spoon in...sprinkle with Italian cheese.

Seriously the best meatball sandwich in the world!

So with the snow blowing and the kids making our first Woodland Hills snowman...cookies in the oven...meatballs was a perfect Sunday.  We are suppose to get 24" of frigged snow before Thanksgiving...brrrrrrrrrrr.  I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and try this recipe using your leftover cranberry sauce for one of the many football games your gang will be watching!

Let It Snow...Let It Snow...Let It Snow

Let it snow...let it snow...let it snow!  This weekend we are suppose to get up to four feet of in anticipation of the white stuff...I am posting a simple SUPER easy project for you to make while you are "snowed in"!

Materials List

10" square of blue wool fabric
One 3" lace doily - White or Off White
Antique White Spray Paint
White Sparkle Glitter
Fabric Glue
Paint Brush

Place doily on cardboard backing and spray with white spray paint until white and wet.  The spray paint stiffens the doily and helps the glitter stick.

Once the doily has been sprayed (only one side) you can place in the center of the blue wool square. 

Take a paint brush and dip in fabric glue.  Lightly touch tops and edges of the doily where you want extra amounts of the glitter to stick.

Get a small amount of glitter on your brush and tab onto fabric glue spots and use fingers to lightly sprinkle all over the "snowflake".  Let dry.

Once dry....stretch wool on a piece of backing (cardboard) that will fit in the size opening on your frame and place in opening.  Time to sit back and enjoy your one of a king snowflake that will glisten all season long!

So in our family we have a tradition that on the first snow we make Snickerdoodles.  We have made them three times this year what that it isn't the first snow.  I love these cookies and thought I would pass along our family recipe.....


1 Cup Butter
1 Cup Butter Flavored Shortening
3 Cups White Sugar
4 Large Eggs
2 Tsp. Baking Soda
4 Tsp. Cream of Tartar
1/2 Tsp. Salt
6 Cups Flour
1 Cup White Sugar
1 Tsp. Cinnamon

Cream butter, shortening, sugar and eggs until light and fluffy.  Do not under beat.  Add dry ingredients.  Make into small balls and roll in 1 cup of sugar and 1 tsp. cinnamon.  Bake at 400 degrees for 8 1/2 minutes.  I place a cinnamon hot in the center of each cookie when they come out of the oven.  The heat "melts" the hot into the cookie and such a fun burst of cinnamon in the center of my favorite cookie.

Fall In Love With November

It is November....all the Halloween pumpkins are packed away and the kids are begging me to get the Christmas decorations out.  I know every store we walk through is playing Christmas music and lights are going up....but it is Thanksgiving this month!  

We Gather Together

I love's the calm between Halloween and Christmas.  The fall leaves are almost gone and the shelves are full.  Most of the yard work is you are now free to take a walk and smell the fresh air.  The food is fabulous...the family and friends gather round...and there is pie...LOTS of pie!!!  (I eat mine for breakfast)

I have a black leather journal I have been keeping in my purse/bag for the last few month to write in whenever I get a chance to be still and quiet.  I have been taking the suggestion of a friend and have started adding one thing I am grateful for each time I write (I have found long meetings the best time to write...everyone thinks I am taking notes :).  Anyways, this week has been a hard week with being sick and long days at work....I had a few minutes yesterday and I opened my journal and read...looking back at the small quick entries and the things I found along the way as blessings.  

I used to keep a gratitude journal a long time ago when I was single and going through a difficult time....and it really made a difference.  So...I am going to do it this month.  I need it! If you want to do this too...go find a cool blank book (Target has the coolest ones) you can write in and see what happens this month....

Tomorrow's Harvest

A couple of weeks ago I scheduled to take a family photo in the mountains behind my house.  I have been saving this ugly (or cool...if you are Maggie) yellow couch to use...had everything planned and then it was raining...POURING!  So I got out the umbrellas and bribed the kids to participate ...and they would get hot potato soup!

...and this is what we got...soaking wet fun!  So the pictures didn't turn out the way I had imagined...but we had a memory!

So we are grateful so rain...wet...and our family being together....weekends...sickness so you can feel good pair of glasses and a book worth wearing them for.....a warm bed....good Italian food....and the chance to have a new day with every sunrise! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Things I Should Do Again

I hope you had a wonderful Halloween with your family...we had a windy, wet, snowy, Halloween...and it was perfect!  Most of my children have grown up so I don't have the little trick-or-treaters like I used to have...and my granddaughter is far far away in Washington.  To add to it they don't permit trick-or-treating in Woodland Hills so we had to find some creative ways to celebrate the holiday!

I decided to make caramel apples with my children.  I burnt the first batch of caramel and discovered burnt caramel tastes just like toasted marshmallows!  Really good stuff...  We ran out of popsicle sticks so I sent my boys out in the woods to find "real" sticks...and my son in laws went out to hide in the trees and scare my little boys!  They brought me back perfect sticks with very white faces!

I learned that you can't roll topping on hot all runs to the bottom....don't use wax paper...AND if you dip it in chocolate and caramel everything sticks!  Oh...and deer LOVE apples....especially the ones you leave out for them.  I guess they had a happy Halloween too.

I have a good friend, Susan Neal who has the site and is a contributor for Studio 5 on KSL in Salt Lake City, Utah.  She did a segment last week on Halloween foods that come from pumpkins...AND I decided to use her recipes as my way to celebrate since our little ones are gone.

We carved four pumpkins and used her recipe for the roasted pumpkin seeds.  So delish!  I have made these every year...but never had them come out so well.  The secret is the 6 hour soak in salt water AND the olive oil and butter.  Very good...

She suggested roasting pumpkin...yes...the carving pumpkins.  Never have done that...but it was so good my kids (and me) were opening the oven all night snacking on the best roasted snack ever...

I tool the roasted pumpkin and mashed it into a filling for homemade raviolis....yes it is all on Sue's site!  Super duper good....

I am a queen in the kitchen when it comes to cream sauces and gravies....and this one deserved a crown.  We kept dipping our garlic crust into the by the time this was placed on the table...we were all full pumpkin bellies!

...and of course it wouldn't be a feast without a homemade pumpkin pie.  Guess who made it?  Count yes he is handsome and can bake....and bite my neck anytime he wants.
