Barn Quilt Workshop at Farm & Hive | June 13

There are days when creativity feels like more than making something beautiful—it feels like coming home to yourself. Our upcoming Barn Quilt Workshop at Farm & Hive is meant to be just that kind of day.

On Friday, June 13, we’ll gather from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM for a full-day, hands-on barn quilt painting experience rooted in tradition, intention, and the joy of working with color.

This workshop is designed for all skill levels—whether this is your very first barn quilt or you’ve painted before and want to deepen your technique. We’ll walk through our How to Paint a Barn Quilt tutorials, covering everything from design layout and clean lines to color placement and finishing details. There will be plenty of hands-on help and personal guidance throughout the day, so you’re never left wondering what comes next.

Each participant will receive a 22” wooden barn quilt board and may choose one pattern from our barn quilt collection. You’ll paint using our signature Prairie Paint Collection, known for its rich, velvety finish and heritage-inspired palette—colors created to work beautifully together and tell a story of place, memory, and home.

We’ll pause mid-day to share a provided lunch, giving space to rest, connect, and enjoy the simple pleasure of being together before returning to our brushes.

A Day of Painting at Farm and Hive

Annual Fall Barn Quilt Workshop

There’s something about fall that makes me want to gather people together. Maybe it’s the golden light on the mountains, the turning of leaves, or the way autumn seems to invite us indoors with stories and craft.

This past weekend we held our annual Fall Barn Quilt Workshop—a tradition I look forward to every year. After returning from New York, it was grounding and joyful to stand once again in my Utah backyard, surrounded by friends and students, brushes moving across wood, as colors and patterns began to bloom into quilt stars.

Each design painted was unique—heritage stars, bold geometrics, and patterns that feel stitched with family and memory. I love seeing how every person’s creativity comes alive, and how a simple piece of wood becomes a story in paint.

Workshops like this remind me why I love teaching—creativity is not just about the finished piece, but about the connection, laughter, and tradition we create along the way.

As we move deeper into the season, I’ll carry the joy of this gathering with me, along with the knowledge that these barn quilts will hang on walls and barns, carrying autumn’s warmth into the months ahead.

Farm and Hive Workshop

This past weekend we had the blessing of traveling up to Farm and Hive in Idaho for a two day Tweetle Dee Workshop.  Susie's farm is such magical piece of heaven. All the little animals greeted us and kept us entertained during our My Heart Belongs to the Wildflowers and our How to Paint a Barn Quilt Class.  

We all had a wonderful weekend celebrating, dreaming and creating together.  Our next Farm and Hive Workshop will be sometime in the spring of '24, so watch for the announcement and get your registration in quickly!

Farm and Hive Workshop

Spring is Here

We had such a happy weekend with the first signs of spring coming up on the mountain.  Easter is one of my favorite holidays because of how simple it is.  A few eggs, a few flowers, a cute bunny and the remembrance that our Savior died so that we can live and have second chances.  It is a perfect time to clear out the old and look at the fresh gifts we receive in our renewals.  
I painted a few wooden eggs with my favorite Prairie Paint colors, that looks so much like the natural eggs we find in our chicken coop.  It's inspired me to pull together a sampler pack of our colors for the season.  Watch for it come very soon.  

I finished the Bud and Dot patterns and created a couple of kits for them, and of course our darling bunnies wanted to show them off.  The kits are available in Our Shop with all the fabric, floss, hoop, needle and instructions to make these darling bunnies.  They are so cute you will want them all around year round.  

All of my ceramic bunnies became a collection of dark chocolate bunnies with a couple of coats of Espresso Brown Satin Spray Paint.  I gathered them together with some vintage Easter cards and Prairie Paint eggs.  It was quick and easy and was the perfect look for my spring table.   

The snow melted off just enough that we could have a small egg hunt on the lawn and the back patio and we all soaked up the rich, golden sun.  It was a lovely day to be together and help our two toddler grandbabies find their eggs.  It took a little wrangling to get them to put them in their baskets, but it was a really fun time.  

As soon as that sun was setting we lit up the porch lights and made our Sourdough Pizza Dough and fired up the Ooni.  We love having pizzas on the back porch because of how simple it is to prep for and each person can make their own creation.  My husband runs the oven and we had a great dinner as the sun set.  

One thing I have learned  is that it doesn't matter what the menu is, or what the weather is, or how many or few we have, as long as we gather together, we will feel love.  I'm thankful for the blessing of family and friends.  I'm also so thankful to see the sun shine on our fences, knowing that the snow will melt and new growth will come soon.  

We hope you had a wonderful weekend and enjoy all the little things that this season brings into your life.  Remember that everyday there is something to celebrate, something we can dream about & hope for, and something we can create.  It's the way I have survived and thrived in my life and I know there is something magical when we look for the small things we can celebrate and feel gratitude for, something we can dream-or hope for, and something we make with our hands and hearts everyday.
