Hellebore Garden Embroidery Kit — A Quiet Bloom for Winter’s Edge

There is a moment, just before spring fully arrives, when the garden feels still…
not asleep, but waiting.
It is here, in that quiet space between seasons, that the hellebore begins to bloom.

Low to the earth, with petals that bow like they are holding a secret, Hellebore often called the Lenten Rose - has long been a symbol of resilience, hope, and quiet strength. It doesn’t wait for perfect conditions. It blooms anyway.

The Hellebore Garden Embroidery Kit was created as a study in softness and patience. Each stitch follows the natural rhythm of the plant...deep green leaves anchoring the design, warm brown stems grounding it, and soft mulberry blooms unfolding gently across the linen.

It is a piece meant to be stitched slowly.
A project to return to in the early morning light or in the quiet of evening.

Not rushed. Not forced. Just… tended.

Inspired by the In-Between

This design holds that in-between space, the place where winter hasn’t fully left, but spring is beginning to whisper.

It’s a reminder that growth doesn’t always look loud or obvious.
Sometimes it looks like rest. Sometimes it looks like small, steady movement forward.
And sometimes… it looks like a single bloom pushing through the cold.

What’s Inside the Kit

Each kit includes everything you need to begin:

  • Fabric sized for an 8" hoop
  • Embroidery needle
  • DMC embroidery floss in a curated winter garden palette
  • Printed pattern and stitch guide
  • Traceable line art
  • Step-by-step instructions

Whether you are new to embroidery or have stitched for years, this kit is designed to feel approachable, grounding, and meaningful.

A Creative Ritual

As you stitch, let this be more than a project. Let it be a pause.  A breath.  A return to your hands and your rhythm. A reminder that something is always growing, even in the quietest seasons.

You can find the Hellebore Garden Embroidery Kit now in the shop.

With love from the studio,

Goldenrod Meadow - A Barn Quilt Pattern Release

There is a certain kind of gold that only arrives at the end of summer.

It grows along the edges of fields, lining quiet country roads and open meadows,
a wild brightness that returns year after year, no matter the season that came before it.

This is the spirit behind Goldenrod Meadow.

A Field Remembered

This design began, as many do, with memory.

Goldenrod has always felt like a marker of time...
a gentle signal that summer is softening into something deeper.
That harvest is near.
That the work of growing is giving way to the work of gathering.

For me, it brings me back to New York…
to the cottage, where goldenrod grows wild and abundant all around us,
spilling into the fields, catching the light, and turning everything to gold in late summer.

The yellow in this design was inspired directly by those fields
by the goldenrod that surrounds our cottage…
a color pulled not from imagination, but from place.
There is something sacred in that, to paint with a color that already belongs to the land.

The Design

Goldenrod Meadow is built from movement.

Small triangular pieces come together like scattered blooms...shifting, turning, gathering into something whole. Set against a deep grounding background, the golden shapes feel alive, like sunlight caught in motion.

Around the edges, a soft border of color echoes the wildness of a meadow—
unexpected, varied, and beautifully imperfect.

This design is both structured and free…
a balance between tradition and the untamed.

Now Available

The Goldenrod Meadow design is now available in the shop as:

  • Barn Quilt Pattern
  • Barn Quilt Kit (includes your board, pattern, and Prairie Paints)

whether you want to paint from scratch, follow a guided kit, or bring home a finished piece.

Prairie Paint: Wild Goldenrod

Wild Goldenrod is more than a color.

It is warmth.
It is resilience.
It is the quiet glow of something that thrives in its own place.

This shade was created to reflect that exact feeling...
inspired by the goldenrod surrounding our New York cottage,
a true meadow gold with depth and richness, designed to carry beautifully across wood, fabric, and time.

Sealed with our Prairie Paint Finishing Wax, each piece is made to last,
indoors or out...aging gently, just like the fields that inspired it.

A Creative Invitation

Goldenrod Meadow is an invitation to slow down.

To paint in rhythm.
To notice color.
To create something with your hands that holds meaning beyond the making.

Whether you’re painting at your kitchen table,
in the studio,
or out under an open sky…

this piece is meant to bring you back to the quiet beauty of the season.

The Log Cabin Star, Reimagined in Stitch

The Log Cabin Star, Reimagined in Stitch

There are some patterns that never leave us.

They follow us from wood to cloth…
from barns to homes…
from hand-painted boards to quiet moments with needle and thread.

The Log Cabin Star is one of those patterns.

Rooted in the long tradition of the Log Cabin quilt block, symbolizing warmth, shelter, and the heart of the home—this design has always carried a deeper meaning for me. Each “log” built around a center…each layer a story…each color a reflection of the life lived within those walls.

When I first painted the Log Cabin Star Barn Quilt, it felt bold and grounded. like something that belonged out in the open air. Framed in cedar, resting against wood and sky, it carried that familiar sense of strength and structure…with a bright, joyful twist in color.

But this time…

I wanted to bring that same design inward.

From Barn to Stitch

There is something sacred about translating a design from paint to thread.

Where the barn quilt is expansive and architectural…
the stitched version becomes intimate.

Slower.
Quieter.
Closer to the hands.

In this Log Cabin Star Cross-Stitch, each painted line becomes a series of tiny, intentional stitches...built one by one, just like the logs of a cabin.

The black background shifts the feeling entirely.

Instead of sitting in daylight, the star now glows—like a window lit at dusk…or a lantern left on to welcome someone home.

The colors feel brighter here.
More alive.
Almost like they’re floating.

A Pattern of Home and Light

The Log Cabin has always been a symbol of protection, a structure built to hold life, warmth, and memory.

But when you add the star…

It becomes something more.

A guide.
A center point.
A quiet reminder that no matter how many layers we build, there is always something steady at the core.

In both the barn quilt and the stitched piece, that meaning remains.

One hangs on the wall, bold and visible.
The other rests in your hands, forming slowly, stitch by stitch.

Both tell the same story.

Stitching the Story

This cross-stitch kit was designed to be more than just a project.

It’s an invitation to slow down…
to build something with intention…
to return, even for a moment, to the simple rhythm of making.

Each color placement echoes the painted version.
Each stitch becomes part of the structure.
Each finished piece carries that same feeling of home.

From My Hands to Yours

It’s always a special thing to see a design move between mediums...
to watch it shift and soften and take on a new life.

The Log Cabin Star began as a barn quilt…
but it feels just as at home in thread.

And maybe that’s the beauty of these old patterns....

They were never meant to stay in just one place.

✨ The Log Cabin Star Cross-Stitch Kit is now available in the shop.
