Bread and Peaches

I have had one week of quiet since the boys went back to school...time to catch up on some reading, cleaning, projects...and can peaches?!?  Canning peaches may not sound like a relaxing thing to do, but when I start a messy consuming project...there is nothing else I can do but finish something I started....which for any of my fellow ADHD DIY'ers you know what I mean.

If you are hungry for a one day project that will make your kitchen pantry pretty and your children's mouths water....grab a bushes of peaches and get started this weekend.  If you haven't canned peaches before...you can co to the Fresh Preserving Ball Website for some great basic tips for canning anything!

It is soooo worth a morning given up to the smell of peaches and sugar.  Yum!  When our children get sick or have a bad day...they don't ask for cookies, they ask for peaches...Mom's canned peaches.  I found my fruit at a local fruit stand in Provo called Allred's.  Love their fruit and apple cider...it is a must to welcome in fall.

My other favorite fall treat is warm wheat bread slathered with butter....I thought I would share my favorite bread recipe.  We use this for all kinds of crusts... bread sticks...etc.

Abby's Wheat Bread

5 cups flour
5 1/2 cup wheat flour
4 cups hot water
1/2 cup honey
1 Tbs sea salt
3 Tbs Saf Instant Yeast
3 Tbs Liquid Lecithin
2 Tbs Shirley J's Dough Enhancer (Secret ingredient see link below...)

Mix dry ingredients together.  Add liquids and mix together for one minute to see if the dough is super moist or dry.  If the dough is dry add a little more white flour until the dough pulls away from the sides of your bowl and looks moist.  Let sit for five minutes and divide into two halves.

Let sit for five minuets and form into loaves, rolls, bread sticks or whatever you would like.  Let raise for 10 - 15 minutes and then place in a hot 350 degree oven for 20 -25 minutes for a loaf.  When loaves are golden brown, remove from the oven and brush with melted butter.  Let cool slightly..pop out of pans and slice....spread with soft butter and enjoy!

Secret Ingredient - I LOVE the Shirley J Dough Enhancer...it will take your dough to new heights!  Seriously made my loaf raise better, the texture was perfect and I could slice it when it was warm...and isn't that the best part of homemade bread?

I hope you have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

All Joy,

Abby

  1. That looks very much like a picture I took a few days ago. I love to hear the "ping" when the jars seal. I also did tomatoes the same day. The kitchen was a mess but I felt satisfied!
