Gepetto's Cottage Playhouse

This past month we had the treat of creating a little child's playhouse some clients who just became grandparents.  It needed to fit under their staircase and they wanted it to look like Gepetto's Cottage from Disney's Pinocchio....

We used reclaimed wood and stone and a few other creative materials to create an aged  look for the cottage.

My favorite element of the playhouse was the miniature gas fireplace.  It was a special order item that doesn't not emit heat....so safe for little fingers.  My husband faux painted the rock around the fireplace so the wall is flat and safe for little children.

The mini-kitchen was built from reclaimed wood and was planed, stained and sealed to get the aged look.  Across from the kitchen is a matching wood bench with a lid-seat that lifts up to store toys and goodies.

The tole painted woodwork was done in the rosemaling style and added the perfect old world touch....

....the window wood was made using reclaimed wood and a wood grid that was found at our local Habitat for Humanity store.  This project was so fun to design.  As each piece of wood was sanded, stained and painted....the colors came out beautifully aged.

I love working with my husband...his creativity knows no bounds!  When we sit down together and design a project like this, the ideas flow and then we get so excited as each element comes to life.  This was one of our favorite projects ever...now I need one just like this in my stairwell for our little kiddos!!!

Let it Snow - Wooden Snowflake Giveaway

We got hit this week with another snowstorm and I couldn't help but get out in it and play...the animals felt the same way.  What some look at as gloomy and cold was so magical to me...I spent a couple hours out in it...mostly shoveling...but I got a little play in too!

I love snowflakes and the winter season and December went by with no snow and 60 degree weather so I am LOVING the white stuff!  So much so that I couldn't pack up my front porch that was decorated with snowflakes...I took the Christmas tree down that was by the front door and it was bare....so we went to the shop and built a reclaimed wood snowflake for the front porch!

It's the perfect piece to carry us from Christmas into spring...especially when you live in the mountains.  I am giving one away on Monday to a follower who loves winter as much as I do! To enter all you need to do is follow me on Instagram or Facebook, and like the photo of the wooden snowflake.  You get one entry per "like".   Just post a comment telling me which one you follow or both for two entries!  The winner will be announced on Monday morning.

I hope you are enjoying your little piece of winter where ever you are!!!

A December to Remember

I decided to take a blogging break for the month of December to focus more on my family...and today the last of the ornaments are getting packed away so I wanted to recap some of my favorite remembrances of the holidays.  The best part of Christmas was that we had family and friends around us and a new grandson born (Little Jude).  It was a month full of joy...

I am happy for this new year and to be back blogging, sewing, and cooking my way through 2015!  I hope you had a wonderful holiday season too...may this coming year the best yet!!!
